The new Meister Pilot Chronoscope follows the success of a pilot’s chronograph from Junghans that the German Bundeswehr equipped their pilots with in the 1950s. In the days before GPS positioning and autopilot, mechanical watches were indispensable for navigation. This instrument-like timepiece was powered by the very precise and reliable J88 caliber. With great attention to detail, Junghans has revived this highlight from its history.
Like the original, everything is designed for maximum functionality. For example, the bi-directionally rotating and ergonomically shaped bezel can be precisely adjusted even when wearing gloves and, together with the stopwatch function, allows the time of flight to be determined. As another requirement for a pilot’s watch, the numerals and hands have a distinctive design and are luminescent for best readability in the dark.
The dial features a classic bicompax layout with a central stop-second and 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock. The finely finished J880.4 automatic movement is well protected inside the DLC-coated case, which has a diameter of 43.5mm and is pressure-resistant to 10 bar. The Meister Pilot Chronoscope is available with two dial options, one with a sand-colored effect finish and the other in a limited edition of 300 pieces in navy blue.
