This year Seiko is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its Seiko 5 Sports collection with a special edition that brings back to life the original created in 1968. Taking direct inspiration from the initial model, the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition is presented in a cushion shaped stainless steel case with a diameter of 39.5mm.
It maintains the distinguishing features, such as the eye-catching weekday and date indication at 3 o’clock, the bold minute track and the red central seconds hand. In addition, the original Seiko 5 Sports logo is revived at the 12 o’clock position and the word “SPORTS” is proudly displayed at 6 o’clock.
At the heart of the reference SRPK17K1 ticks Seiko’s tried-and-trusted self-winding caliber 4R36 which is protected against magnetic fields of up to 4,800 A/m. The case is water resistant to 100 meters and attached to a metal bracelet that is also inspired by the make of the early models. The case back is closed and marked with “Limited Edition” and the serial number.
The watch comes in a specially designed box that evokes the vintage feel of the time when the original Seiko 5 Sports watch was released.
Limited to 15,555 pieces, it will be available from July 2023. Pricing for the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition is marked at approximately $450 when converted to USD.
