Mark your calendars for WatchTime New York 2023, set to take place at Manhattan’s iconic Gotham Hall from October 20th to 22nd. Among the brands presenting will be German watchmaker Moritz Grossman, which will be showcasing one of its most important highlights of the year in the Benu Power Reserve Salmon.
Moritz Grossman is a name synonymous with traditional watchmaking artistry, with its Benu Heritage collection in particular embodying its commitment to historical styles that connect the past to the modern age of watch design. The new Benu Power Reserve Salmon continues this effort, blending old-world craftsmanship with contemporary design and technical advancements.
On the wrist, the Benu Power Reserve Salmon boasts a sleek, polished steel case that strikes the nice balance between sporty and elegant, measuring 41mm by 11.65mm with proportions that have been finely tuned for style and comfort. A vintage-influenced silhouette paired with an extended-stem crown and delicate bezel add to its unique, expansive charm. While an additional pusher below the crown serves the watch’s sophisticated hand setting mechanism, smartly preventing foreign particles from entering the case when pulling the crown to adjust the time.
One of the most striking features of this timepiece is in its salmon-colored dial and matching seconds sub-dial, a limited edition design choice that exudes warmth and modernity. The harmonious blend of pink and orange in the dial’s color palette is nicely complemented by printed Arabic numerals in calming blue, while a blue and grey power reserve indicator sits below another printed detail in the brand’s logo towards the 12 o’clock position. A dark gray minute track frames the dial discreetly, while delicately tapered hands in a signature Benu, rhombus shape point to the running time—with each steel pointer produced by hand and tempered in blue.
Turning the watch over reveals the heart of the Benu in the Moritz Grossman calibre 100.2, visible via a sapphire exhibition caseback. The calibre 100.2 is an extension of the calibre 100.1 and is constructed as a classic pillar movement with a 2/3 plate. The hand-wound mechanism features an exceptional finishing, inclusive of the brand’s characteristic Glashütte striping on its plate, a hand-engraved and shock-resistant balance cock, as well as the use of white sapphires as jewels, held by brown-violet screws.
