In 2022, independent Swiss luxury watch brand Speake-Marin introduced the Ripples, an integrated stainless-steel watch which offered a completely new design that combines sporty elegance with an unconventional aura. Adding to the collection this year is the new Ripples Blue Jeans, a novel take on the design which makes use of namesake “washed-out” blue jeans colorway for its dial.
The new Ripples model is poised to serve as one of Speake-Marin’s highlights at WatchTime New York 2023, now only two weeks away on October 20 to 22. Like previous editions of the show, this year’s collectors’ event will take place at Manhattan’s iconic Gotham Hall, with over thirty brands participating, and plenty of incredible horological experiences sure to come.
Taking a closer look at the new model, we find a 40.3mm integrated steel case, with its rounded square shape featuring the same sporty silhouette as seen in the original 2022 introduction. A 9.2mm thickness keeps the watch close to the wrist, while a 50m water resistance adds to its wearability. A sophisticated blend of brushed and polished finishing extending from case to bracelet adds to the model’s style, much the same as the flush guards alongside the Ripples’ crown.
Following the previous dial options of black and yellow gold, the dial of the new Ripples Blue Jeans lives up to its name. A “rippling” texture makes itself known on the display, with its light blue contrasted by an outer minute ring and off-center sub-dial for the running seconds towards the 1:30 position. A pair of brand signature rhodium plated, heart-shaped hands sweep over it all, the duo pointing to matching applied hour indices.
Underneath the dial ticks the finely finished in-house caliber SMA03-T. The automatic mechanism features a power reserve of 52 hours. Thanks to the integration of a micro-rotor, the self-winding movement is very flat, allowing for a svelte height of just 9.2mm. The caliber is visible via a sapphire exhibition caseback, complete with hand-finished bridges, Geneva stripes, and rhodium-plating.
The Speake-Marin Ripples Blue Jeans is limited to 60 editions with retail pricing marked at CHF 23,000 (approximately $25,100 at the time of writing).
