Trilobe’s Une Folle Journée collection made its debut last year, and now the brand is developing the line with its latest Dune model. Though the newest edition makes minor changes from its predecessor, the result is nothing short of remarkable. The timepiece uses an innovative design and mechanism to display the time with three distinct rotating rings. The technical mastery involved in operating this watch is impressive for the Trilobe brand, as is the ultra-modern design aesthetic that supports it.
For the case, Trilobe opts for a 40.5mm diameter case that wears 17.8mm high on the wrist. The bezel supports the unique design of the dial within it, utilizing a domed shape that blends seamlessly with the anti-reflective crystal. As far as materials are concerned, the brand is debuting this timepiece in either grade 5 titanium or 18-carat rose gold. For both options, all surfaces have mirror-polished or satin brushed treatments throughout, creating a concise and elegant appearance. Secured by a sapphire case back and a push button crown, the case offers water resistance to 50 meters for the titanium iteration and 30 meters for the rose gold option.
The dial layout is characterized by three eccentric circular rings, one each for the hours, minutes, and seconds, from the periphery to the center, respectively. The tiered rings appear to levitate, though they are anchored by 9 pillars and stand at 10.2mm high. To indicate the time, the disks rotate past a stationary red marker. Taking shape in a stormy grey hue, the tracks contrast the bridges exposed underneath, which sport a warm summer hue reminiscent of dune sand.
Powering the Une Folle Journée Dune is the Trilobe X-centric caliber. It is inclusive of 196 components and is designed by Trilobe in collaboration with a partner in Switzerland that produces the movement. The self-winding integrated mechanical mechanism has a micro-rotor and is capable of 48 hours of reserved power.
The Trilobe Une Folle Journée Dune clad in titanium is priced at €23,500 (approximately $25,700), while the rose gold option retails for €35,500 (approximately $38,800). Both options are presented on a brown leather strap.
